One of my favorite types of craft paper to use in my card making ideas is vellum, there is a lot you can do with it to create stunning effects and designs.
Vellum was initially a type of translucent paper made from calfskin that had been soaked through and then dried at a normal temperature under some kind of tension.
Vellum is a parchment paper named after the French word velin meaning calfskin, it is soft and durable and can be used in many ways to create cards.
Vellum can come in a variety of colors or prints and can vary in weight and thickness.
Using vellum for your card making ideas is a fun way to embellish and add definition to your cards, it doesn’t always have to be a solid colored sheet as vellum can have a lot of prints including flowers, swirls, and even pictures.
You can use vellum for matting and layering and even covering the entire front of a card, however because it is slightly visible you will need to be careful when placing it on your card to create ideas as a lot of stickers will show.
There are some vellum stickers available however these can be expensive sometimes and I think even though they are supposed to be invisible you can still see the tape, maybe it’s just because I know it’s there and I’m looking for it.
If possible, try to glue vellum to your card for ideas by means other than adhesive, I use nails when possible so the vellum is secured and no glue is needed.
You can also print on vellum, which is a really effective way to have a message on your cards or poem. Because vellum is so smooth, you will need to be very careful when printing on vellum as it can stain. I would wait at least a few hours before attaching the printed vellum to one of your card making ideas.
You can also try drying the ink with a heat gun, but use the lowest setting and be very careful as this can burn the vellum.
Vellum can also be used to pierce ghostly shapes, I find that piercing flower shapes and constructing them on the front of a card gives it an impressive look.
If you use vellum quotes you can just cut the wording, however I find that if you rip the vellum words it looks so much better.
Whether you are wearing quotes, printed patterns, or plain vellum, you will find that there is so much you can do with it that you will love it.
