No one, as far as I know, enjoys wearing a mask/face covering, especially not on a regular basis, for any length of time! However, if one finds doing it, personally, it is a challenge. imagine how you would feel, lying in a hospital Intensive Care Unit, wearing a ventilator, etc., as part of medical treatment for severe forms of COVID-19? Certainly the public has heard mixed messages, because while most public health experts say wearing a mask, social space and washing hands are basic, common sense preventative measures to reduce the spread of this horrible virus, President Trump and some of the characters he surrounds himself with articulated a message, often downplaying these behaviors and even referring to the pandemic as a hoax, etc.! Those who seem to resist these sensible actions often use 5 Half Justifications for their reasons and reasoning! With that in mind, this article will attempt to briefly consider, review, examine, and discuss these and why there are dangers and ramifications for others, due to your refusal to use common sense.
1. Tired/Pandemic Fatigue: Everyone is tired of this pandemic and the associated restrictions, necessary, for the greater good and public health! While, in some areas, many still cooperate and do the right thing, there are significant numbers who seem to put their perceived comforts and conveniences ahead of the greater good. Studies indicate that if more than 75% of the public would act accordingly and wear a mask, social distance, avoid crowds, and wash/sanitize their hands, the spread of the virus would be reduced by more than 90%.
2. I’ll be fine: Some remain, apparently, in denial and claim that everything will be fine, apparently, magically. Unfortunately, the reality is that we will only recover from this when populist politics and rhetoric are replaced by common sense, leadership, and public health direction.
3. I don’t like masks/can’t wear them: Although, a very, small minority are actually unable to wear masks, for any length of time, due to some serious health issue, for the majority, who claim they cannot, it is a matter of them putting their own self-interest ahead of the greater good!
4. Boredom: Everyone has a feeling of boredom because there is a significant reduction in meals, entertainment, and/or travel. suck it, and do the right thing! Stop making excuses!
5. The vaccine is coming: The good news is, it seems, that several quality and effective vaccines are currently being produced! However, it will take several months before we achieve the equivalent of herd immunity, because to do so requires at least 70% of the public to agree to get vaccinated! In the meantime, common sense would direct us to continue doing the simple things, discussed above, consistently and regularly.
Stop complaining and falsely declaring, do it and cooperate, it is a restriction of your freedoms and rights! Only when common sense and responsible behavior become the way forward will we stop witnessing all these horrible cases and deaths!
