The Weber 6570001 Genesis S-330 Liquid Propane Stainless Steel Gas Grill is one of the most expensive freestanding (non-built-in) propane gas grills on the market today. Is it worth the high price or are you paying more for name recognition? My husband and I decided to find out. We bought one and used it for a month, so I could write a detailed review to help anyone considering buying this model. We made it a point to grill frequently during the review period, to get a fair idea of how well this unit performs with regular use. Here is my review.
I ordered my Weber Genesis gas grill online and it was shipped right to my doorstep. This unit is not only big, but it also weighs close to 200 pounds. I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of bringing it home from a local store. The Weber Genesis S-330 Gas Grill arrived in perfect condition but needed some assembly. The included instructions were very well written and setup was easy. However, some of the parts are quite heavy, so I would not recommend that anyone install this gas grill by themselves. The whole process took the two of us about 45 minutes.
This Weber Genesis gas grill is incredibly solid once assembled and all the parts are strong and strong. There is nothing cheap about this model. The overall look of this gas grill is quite impressive. Not only is it large, but the quality of workmanship is evident from far and near. The metal used for the main body is thick, the cooking grates are heavy-duty stainless steel, and the burners are strong and solid. Stainless steel cooking grates aren’t as durable as cast iron, but they don’t require the same level of maintenance either. This model comes with flavor bars. These bars go under the cooking grates, just above the heat source. This does two things. First, the bars protect from flare-ups by preventing droplets from entering the fire. Second, those drippings superheat and then vaporize, adding flavor to the food sitting on them.
We heated up our grill for the first time and it actually reached 600 degrees F in less than ten minutes. This is a powerful grill. We lowered the temperature and grilled two bone-in T-bone steaks and some asparagus bathed in olive oil. We thought such a high-quality grill deserved a high-quality meal for its first assignment. Rib-eye steaks are quite fatty (which is why they’re so flavorful) and tend to cause flare-ups on gas grills. The flavor bars prevented this from happening. The juices from the steak hit the bars and vaporized, scenting the air with a divine aroma you have to smell to believe. The steaks were cooked beautifully, with perfect grill marks and a smoky flavor you don’t normally get from a gas grill. The asparagus tasted “meaty” I guess from the flavoring bars steaming the rib. My husband and I find this to be very tasty, but this is something to keep in mind if mixed flavors are an issue. I can’t see a vegetarian enjoying a “meaty” grilled Portabella mushroom, so this could be a problem in homes with both carnivores and herbivores sharing a gas grill. Also, you may only need to segregate foods that have flavors that don’t go together well.
The side burner on this unit works well and the flame is not likely to blow out on windy days. That’s a real plus for us, since we live in the windy Midwest. The large grilling surface with the side burner makes this unit a great choice for people who like to cook all summer outside, like my husband and I do.
This gas grill works well as an outdoor oven. The cookbox is incredibly heavy and solid and does a great job of keeping the heat in, where it belongs. It takes a bit of force to lift the lid on this unit, especially if you’re 5’2″ and skinny, like me. The extra force is definitely worth it though, as it greatly increases fuel efficiency and battery life. overall cooking capacity of this gas grill.
The Weber Genesis S-330 did a great job with everything we cooked during the review period. It does a great job of keeping the temperature and cooking evenly on both high and low temperatures. The results are just as impressive when grilling burgers over high heat as they are when cooking brisket over low heat. Flavor bars really add flavor, especially at higher temperatures.
I usually try to list a few negatives when reviewing a gas grill, but there really isn’t much to say in this area when it comes to the Weber Genesis gas grill. There is the slight issue of mixing flavors, but my husband and I really like the fact that this gas grill really adds flavor, unlike most models out there. So he’s actually more of a professional. My husband and I prefer cast iron cooking grates, but that’s just our personal preference. We both felt that these cooking grates were the best we have ever used that were made of steel. They still leave good grill marks. The biggest downside to the Weber Genesis S-330 gas grill is that the high price puts this unit out of reach for most people. You may not be able to get a grill with the same level of quality as this model for less money, but there really is a gas grill for every price range.
