Cosmetic tattooing is a way of introducing pigments into the skin of the face to enhance the eyes and lips or any imperfection on the face. A needle containing the pigment releases it into the skin. Pigments are made from safe inert iron oxides and care must be taken to avoid cadmium and cobalt which are toxic.
EyebrowsUpper and lower eye lines, lip lines, and skin blemishes are most often subjected to permanent makeup.
The problem with permanent cosmetics is that many clients choose a technician based on the permanent makeup cost and convenience of location. The work they do is not up to par. On the other hand, they claim that accidents can happen at any time and no one can predict unfortunate circumstances. Accidents here do not deal with any incidents related to infections. It has to do with the unexpected visible results of permanent makeup.
What are they?
color migration or what is called an explosion occurs in normal tattoos and cosmetic tattoos are no exception. Color migration can occur anywhere the pigment is injected, but it appears that the face and certain parts of its tissue structure are prone to it, such as eyeliner. Pigment liner migration is a common mishap.
Pigment lightening: Occurs over time, with the use of certain peels and skin lightening creams.
Shape adjustments: a little lack of symmetry for eyebrows, lips, etc.
Accidents and their medical implications are another story.
It is preferable to do it under the supervision of a qualified tattoo artist who takes precautions. Professionals include dermatologists, cosmetologists, tattoo artists, and nurses. Hepatitis B and C can be contracted from equipment that has not been properly sterilized.
Keloid scarring, cold sores, fever blisters, allergies, adverse MRI reactions due to ferromagnetic dyes are some of the medical consequences of cosmetic tattoos gone awry. Allergic reactions can occur immediately or even after a few years, appearing as a rash. Any vegetable based pigment is prone to cause allergies unlike iron oxide which is the safest pigment.
So what happens when a cosmetic tattoo needs correction?
A cosmetic tattoo correction is required in two cases:
- When the shape needs to be improved
- When the color fades
In the first case, there is a product commonly known as magic color that camouflages the previous tattoo and can be used on eyebrows, eyeliner and lips. It is suitable for all skin tones, from dark to light.
Color correction – this may need different concealer pigments for different situations. For example, blue brows will need a blue brow concealer pigment, pink or orange brows will need a purple brow concealer pigment.
All fixes usually require more than one session and patience is required.
It is important to be skilled in pigment colors and skin tones, as some pigment colors do not work well on some skin tones.
The other different methods of cosmetic tattoo removal are:
- laser treatment
- dermabrasion
- TCA (trichloroacetic acid)
- Salabrasion (rubbing the skin with salt)
- cryosurgery
- Circumcision
- microneedles
