The most popular destination in San Francisco is Fisherman’s Wharf. Home to excellent restaurants, as you walk along the pier during the day your mouth will water at the smell of succulent Dungeness crab. The smell of fine seafood you can sample is washed away by the aroma of San Francisco’s famous Sourdough bread as you head to one of several nearby locations. Fisherman’s Wharf Tours are a great way to tour the entire wharf during one visit, both historical and fun. However, just a short walk from the pier are many options for travel to San Francisco.
Ghirardelli Square is across the street from the pier. Home to the flagship location of Ghirardelli Chocolate, the chocolate giant has been in San Francisco since 1852. They moved to the current location in 1895 and history is rich in its current location. One can taste chocolates and ice creams at the breaks of the many attractions on the pier. Although it is not the only option to explore in the famous square, it is a destination not to be missed.
Pier 39 is also within walking distance of the attractions of Fisherman’s Wharf. Home to 110 shops and several bayfront dining options, the location offers postcard views of the bay. The Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the Bay Bridge are part of the landscape of photo opportunities. Family attractions are available at both locations; therefore, the Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39 pass is a great money saver and a San Francisco travel option to consider.
To pass the time, other notables in the area include the National Liberty Ship Memorial (the SS O’Brien), Aquarium of the Bay, Anchorage Square, and just a few blocks away is the home of the world champion San Francisco Giants. You’ll also find talented and unique street performers appearing every day, providing a unique entertainment opportunity as part of a full day.
Travel options to San Francisco are many. This is just a small slice of the beautiful city and what is available. Fisherman’s Wharf attractions are certainly not to be missed, but it’s not all the City by the Bay has to offer and I look forward to sharing my favorite big city with everyone in future writings.
