The modern home has so many automated devices in place, some obviously some not. Home automation may seem like something that Q would equip James Bond with, or that only the wealthy have. But when you think about it, many facets of the technology in your home are already automated: heating timers, underfloor heating in some rooms, security alarm, security cameras, perhaps your garage door. All of these are elements of home control technology on an individual scale. The real trick is to have an all-encompassing system that combines all the smallest automation elements in each standalone system and combines them into a single neat interface for you and your family to live on. The control system can then “listen” to all connected devices and react to alerts, whether for security, entertainment or just convenience.
Security
Security alarms today are a much more complex beast than before. Many have incorporated home automation functions in addition to the traditional network of PIRs, contact sensors, and sirens. It is already common for an alarm to automatically call the police when it is triggered, perhaps sending an alert to a call center or to your mobile phone. But with a monitoring system in place, the alarm (or the press of a panic button) can be heard and can be triggered to trigger a series of events. All the lights can be turned on. All windows and doors will be closed / locked. All cameras go into recording mode and are displayed on television screens that have also been turned on. Perhaps the exterior lights go on and off to alert neighbors of a potential danger. With a monitoring system like this, you will make sure that you and your family are safe. Neighborhood safety also increases (assuming you like your neighbors!).
Entertainment
Home automation is not entirely serious and boring. Your home automation system can encompass your multi-room audio and video system. With the same keyboard on the wall that can turn on the lights, your automation system will also allow you to turn up the music, turn on the TV. Every morning have the house automatically play your favorite song or radio station as an alarm. When you get home at night and press the garage door button in the car, the home automation system will pick up your personal flag and put the TV on your favorite channel, turn on the lights for you, maybe open the lights of the roof. Invite friends? At the push of a button on a keyboard, ambient lighting will turn on over the drink table, some cool music will play through the speakers, the fire can be lit. Hand over the wireless automation controller or iPad and you can choose music to play with each other.
convenience
Your home automation system will make your life easier. Most of the time running automation tasks in the background that you are not even aware of! With the lighting paths in place, return home and press WELCOME on the home automation keypad and the hallway, kitchen, and stairwell lights will activate. In the background, the system will make sure you are only using the amount of brightness necessary to light the way, saving your bulb life and energy bills. Go to bed and press GOOD NIGHT and the home automation system will close the curtains, turn off the lights, turn off the TV, allowing you to have a peaceful sleep knowing that you are safe and secure in your automated home.
Combining security and convenience (and potentially even entertainment) with modern iPads and similar devices, you can log into your home automation system on the go! Check job security cameras to see if cleaners are doing their job or if children are safe. Did you forget to turn off the heating before going on vacation? Grab your laptop, load up your home software, and turn off the heating. Make sure the lights are off too!
Having home automation is an elegant and discreet solution. Take wall acne from a thermostat, light switch, blind switch, CCTV screen, door entry phone, music keypad all together on the wall, and replace it with a stylish single keypad or screen interface tactile. It doesn’t need to be complete home automation, maybe just the key rooms in the house. Or just the downstairs living areas.
