We are very lucky to live near the Outer Banks. If we are planning a long weekend and want a getaway not too far from home, the OBX is an ideal place. We love the beach and the history of the area, and the Currituck side in particular is quiet and offers many opportunities for leisure and enjoyment. As more people discover the majesty of Currituck Sound and the surrounding areas, the community becomes more active attracting people to visit for a day or more. Throughout the year something always happens.
What do you enjoy most about a trip to the Currituck Outer Banks? Whatever your answer, there is likely an event designed to celebrate it. Residents and visitors alike look forward to these annual festivals, and if you plan to rent a beachside vacation home or stay in a hotel, you’ll want to keep an eye on the calendar for a great time.
Some of the most anticipated events include:
The Outer Banks Bike Show – This is a fun event that usually happens around Labor Day weekend. Motorcycle enthusiasts come from all over the East Coast to show off their bikes and enjoy live music.
Currituck Wine and Food Festival: September is Wine Appreciation Month in Currituck County, and the festivities culminate in this annual celebration of local vineyards. Area restaurants provide food and there are grape-stomping contests.
Mustang Music Festival: This benefit for the Corolla Wild Horse Fund brings together great regional and national touring bands. It usually occurs in the fall, when the weather is ideal for an outdoor event.
Corolla Wild Horse Days: Another benefit for area wild horses, this event provides a great opportunity to learn more about the mustangs that roam free on the beach.
Fireworks Festival: If you choose to celebrate Independence Day on the Outer Banks, bring a blanket and come to Currituck Heritage Park. With the majestic Whalehead Club in the background, it’s a great place to watch the fireworks.
Knotts Island Peach Festival – A favorite with local foodies, the peach festival is usually held on the grounds of Martin Orchard and Vineyards, where juicy peaches are grown and harvested. You’ll find games for the kids, craft vendors and, of course, the sweetest peaches in town.
Currituck Outer Banks offers many lively recreational opportunities for visitors. Come celebrate with the locals and enjoy your stay.
