Living and growing up in Ireland was beautiful. Many things have changed since the 1980s in this country, many good but also many bad. The pub tradition is still strong here, and always has been. As a person who has traveled, I have noticed that everywhere there is an Irish pub. I have worked in many of these Irish pubs and have loved every minute of it. It’s funny that even when the Irish travel to get away from this wonderful little country, we always end up in an Irish pub. Drinking Guinness and singing our traditional pride songs.
West Cork is a beautiful part of Ireland, yes I may be naive as that is where I live, but living on the coast is quite beautiful. It’s true when people say “home is where the heart is”, but to really appreciate the little things, travel is vital. Bed and breakfasts are great for getting away for a few days or traveling around Ireland from county to county. Waking up to a home fry up and a lovely story about the local area is great. One of my favorite places is Dingle in County Kerry. It has not lost the old Irish landscapes and even when eating out a traditional Irish stew. Nothing better to warm up after a walk along its old pier.
Unfortunately, Ireland has not been blessed with good weather. It is known for rain and cold weather, even in our so called summers. I think if it didn’t rain so much, this country wouldn’t be as beautiful and green as it is. Forty shades of green as the song says. Many tourists are surprised, in a good way, how green and natural it is here.
I think the most popular places to visit in Ireland are obviously the capital of Ireland, which is Dublin. Apart from the obvious places like Newgrange, Killarney and Galway, there are many places that are not very well known. For example, the small towns and villages around West Cork like Glengariff and many more. The coastal towns are beautiful. There are so many places in Northern Ireland, discovering them can be fun and staying in the many Bed and Breakfasts on offer can be the perfect stay. It is very nice to visit our own country as many people are doing now to save money on their holidays abroad and it is very convenient. Our country is to be enjoyed and it is good to be proud of it.
