Geneva is a truly fascinating city, boasting a colorful culture and intriguing history, all set against a stunning cityscape. However, one of the best ways to experience this city is through its various seasonal events and festivals, many of which occur during the summer.
One of the most famous events in Geneva are the Fetes de Geneve, which take place from July 16 to 29. One of the biggest festivals in the city, this event features lakeside parades, live concerts, a children’s day, and nights filled with house music and techno parties. So whether you plan to attend this festival with friends or the whole family, there is something for everyone to enjoy. There’s even a spectacular fireworks display each year, a highlight for guests of all ages! Last year, more than two million guests attended the Fetes de Geneve, making it one of the most successful gatherings in the city.
Another popular Geneva event is the Lake Geneva Wine Festival. Held in September of each year, the wine festival welcomes the best wineries in Geneva to celebrate the end of the grape harvest. Guests are invited to taste different wines, improving their palates and wine tasting skills. The festival’s traditional wines are also accompanied by local cheeses, music, street performances and parades to introduce guests to some of the best cultural offerings from across the country.
A third event that is well established in Geneva is the Swiss National Circus Knie. With a 200-year history and a three-week residency on Geneva’s Plaine de Plainpalais each year, Circus Knie offers an irresistible show for children and adults alike. Come and witness the famous acts of elephants, horses and seals and leave with an experience to remember!
Along with the Lake Geneva Wine Festival, the Fete des Vendanges Russin festival, which takes place on September 19-20, is another well-known wine harvest event held in the region every year. Held in the small town of Russin, just outside of Geneva, this event offers guests the opportunity to taste some 150 delicious locally grown wines, as well as participate in dancing and music.
Finally, the Festival La Batie, which takes place from August 28 to October 12, welcomes some of the best local and international artists to Geneva. Taking place at more than 20 venues across the city, this event features everything from contemporary dance and classical theater, to colorful installations and visual arts.
