Every human being comes with a complex array of talents and strengths, fears and weaknesses. Being a good leader, you must discover the strengths of your followers and empower them so that they can be better from time to time.
Seriously, before you can empower your followers, you must first train them. Let them know what they are doing and where they are going.
Here are some actions you need to take to lead your team members and move them toward excellence.
• Explain the principles
Before assigning a new task to your subordinates, you need to clarify some important matters to them. It is important that you highlight the principles behind the tasks and the goals of completing the tasks. Inform them of your expectations and share your desired outcome with them. It is not just action. Don’t just focus on the execution. You need to prepare everyone on your team to be physically and psychologically fit before they start working on certain tasks.
• Help people to know their weaknesses.
Keep in mind that you cannot cure people’s weaknesses. It can only help them identify their weak points and help them overcome problems. Let subordinates correct their mistakes themselves. They will definitely learn from failures. To be a good coach, you need to understand that different personality styles will take someone to certain levels. Therefore, you must provide guidance to your followers.
• Monitor progress
When you have your subordinates work on some matters, it is suggested that you monitor their work progress from time to time. When you’re monitoring, you need to spend time clarifying new issues and communicating with your followers appropriately. Ask them to share their suggestions and options with you. By doing so, you will be able to understand them better.
• Motivate your followers
What I mean here is not to motivate your followers with money. Your primary role is to inspire and drive your subordinates toward achieving your organization’s vision. Motivation is more like empowerment.
You are advised to empower your followers by giving them more authority and responsibilities. This will allow them to handle things with more confidence as you are giving them your confidence.
